Shawn Chenoweth Dominates Jackpot on the Hilltop at Sunset Speedway

Monday - June - 2025

INNISFIL, Ontario — Taking the lead just before halfway, Shawn Chenoweth led the entire second half of the event to secure the $10,000 payday for winning the Jackpot on the Hilltop at Sunset Speedway.

Chenoweth laid down a lap of 13.932 seconds in time trials to place him eighth on the board, landing him the seventh-place starting spot in the lucky duck redraw with the fans pre-race. The veteran began to make his way forward quickly, cracking the top-five with just six laps on the board before working his way up to second on Lap 18. He then made his move on J.R. Fitzpatrick on Lap 42, taking over the top spot.

Despite a series of cautions through the second half, Chenoweth was able to hold a healthy advantage over his competition, and held off a challenge from Treyten Lapcevich that included a slight bump with 24 laps to go. Chenoweth ultimately crossed the line first to score the victory, 0.313 seconds ahead of his competition.

Lapcevich was the quickest car in time trials, laying down a lap of 13.668 seconds for the Fox’s Bakery and Deli Pole Award. However, he took the green flag from eighth after the redraw. He was patient in his climb to the front, cracking the top-five on Lap 16 before taking over second at the halfway mark. He tried to mount a challenge on each of the ensuing restarts, coming up short with a second-place finish.

Brandon Passer, who picked up the victory at Sunset Speedway earlier this month, completed the podium ahead of J.R. Fitzpatrick and Kyle Crump.

Chase Wilson rebounded from a spin for sixth ahead of Brandon Watson, who made his return to Super Late Model competition on Saturday. Rookie Dustyn Mombourquette was eighth in front of Dario Capirchio and Roy Passer. It was a rough night for both Capirchio and Passer, who sustained damage after contact on Lap 1 due to sliding in fluid on the track surface coming to the green. Passer was then involved in a couple other cautions that followed.

Adrian Foster battled back after contact past halfway for 11th, followed by Mike Miller and Chris Burrows. Dwayne Baker started up front, but a first lap spin in the fluid and mechanical gremlins relegated him back to 14th.

Brad Pearsall pulled off with mechanical issues on Lap 23, with Glenn Watson suffering a similar fate on Lap 8.

Thank you to Just Foam It, The Car Guy Auto Service, and Norcom Supply for stepping up to sponsor the event, as well as Gulf Race Fuels for awarding race fuel to the winner and a random driver via a draw.

The Super Late Models are back in action on Saturday, July 12 at Peterborough Speedway.
