J.R. Fitzpatrick Dominates the Crowes Gas 50 at Peterborough

PETERBOROUGH, Ontario — Taking the lead in the early stages, J.R. Fitzpatrick held serve the rest of the way en route to winning the Ontario Outlaw Super Late Model event at Peterborough Speedway.
Fitzpatrick has been fast at Canada’s toughest 1/3-mile oval in the past, as evident by multiple victories in the Autumn Colours Classic. He proved he was fast with a win in one of the four qualifying heats, setting him up well for the 50-lap feature event.
Taking the lead on Lap 4, he did not look back as he led the rest of the way en route to his second checkered flag of 2024 after winning earlier this season at Flamboro Speedway.
Passer Racing tried to mount a challenge, coming up short with Brandon Passer and Dario Capirchio completing the podium. Peterborough Speedway Super Stock competitor Marlie Owen made her way forward throughout the event for fourth, with Ethan Cournyea in fifth.
Thayne Hallyburton put together one of his best runs of 2024 in sixth ahead of Doug Gilllespie, Robert Bickle, Mike Miller, and Glenn Watson. Watson was running third when contact with a lap car saw him make contact with the wall to end his feature early. Roy Passer rounded out the field.
Qualifying heat victories went to J.R. Fitzpatrick (x2), Doug Gillespie, and Thayne Hallyburton.
The nights event was sponsored by Crowes Gas in Roseneath. Located at 8454 45 in Roseneath, they have a convenience store where they sell gas, diesel and propane plus have a car wash and go kart track across the street.
The Ontario Outlaw Super Late Models are back in action on Friday, August 16 at Delaware Speedway. However, several of the drivers will be taking part in the Gold Rush 124 on Tuesday, August 13 at Flamboro Speedway.
